Heart Valve Disease
The Freestyle® Bioprosthesis is a tissue valve obtained from the heart of a pig. A pig's heart anatomy is similar to that of a human heart. The Freestyle heart valve is made without a frame (stent). This allows the valve to move and work like a natural valve. In some cases, it also lets your surgeon use a larger-sized valve so blood flow increases. The Freestyle heart valve is used to replace a defective aortic valve.
The Freestyle heart valve is implanted at the point where blood from the left ventricle enters the aorta.
The Freestyle heart valve is a breakthrough in heart valve design. It's a heart valve that closely resembles the design and blood flow characteristics of a natural aortic valve. Because it has a larger opening for more blood to flow through, the strain on your heart is reduced, which can result in your heart returning to a more normal function.1,2
