Replacing a Pump

Drug pumps are designed to last for several years without replacement. Some pumps have batteries that wear out and need to be surgically removed and replaced. (Other pumps are powered by an inert gas and do not have a battery.)

Regardless of the model you have, your pump may need to be replaced if a problem occurs. If you hear your pump alarm, notify your doctor immediately, and have your pump checked.

Replacing a Catheter

The catheter will need to be replaced or repaired if it is torn, dislodged, blocked, or damaged.

Talk to your doctor about how long you can expect your pump and catheter to last.
