Before you leave the hospital, you will receive a temporary device registration card for your Enterra® neurostimulation system. A few weeks later, Medtronic will send you a permanent card that has information about your system and also identifies your doctor.
Please carry this card with you at all times. In case of any emergency, the registration card will identify you as someone with an implanted medical device and also provide Medtronic toll-free phone numbers for technical assistance.
In addition, the card can help explain why you need to bypass certain strong electromagnetic fields, such as security screening devices and theft detectors.
Your card is especially important if you travel by air because airport security devices may interfere with your neurostimulator, detect its metal case, or both. Be prepared to show your registration card to the airline staff to obtain clearance.
If you move, change phone numbers, get a new doctor, or lose your card, contact Medtronic for a replacement card. To contact Medtronic:
Although not required, medical alert jewelry is a convenient way to let health care providers know that you have an implanted Enterra neurostimulation system. Several sources for jewelry are available on the Internet. If you choose to wear such jewelry, the following engraving is suggested:
