To prepare for your Meniett® therapy, you’ll need to have a tiny ventilation tube (vent tube) inserted in the eardrum of your affected ear. This allows the micropressure pulses of the Meniett device to reach the part of your ear that is causing your symptoms.
These medical professionals will help you with your Meniett therapy:
The otolaryngologist, or ENT doctor, specializes in diseases of the ear, nose, and throat. An otologist is an ear specialist. Your primary care doctor sent you to one of these specialists when he or she suspected you might have Ménière’s disease.
Once you and your doctor determine that Meniett therapy is the right treatment for you, the ENT or ear specialist will give you a prescription so that you can order your Meniett device. Then, he or she will insert a vent tube in your eardrum. This specialist will also show you how to perform your Meniett treatments and provide follow-up care.
A nurse will attend the ENT or ear specialist during the vent tube procedure. He or she will help you be as comfortable as possible during the short operation.
If there’s something you don’t understand about Meniett therapy or the vent tube procedure, be sure to ask your doctor or nurse to explain it further.
