Receiving ‘extra life’ is powerful. And, while each individual chooses how to use it, their achievements can have a considerable impact in improving people’s lives. Bakken Invitation Honorees are people who, with the help of medical technology, have overcome health challenges and used their extra life to make a difference in communities worldwide. Honorees demonstrate that access to quality healthcare can empower patients to not only manage their health but also improve the lives of others.
If you are an advocate, an innovator, a social entrepreneur or a person who has given his or her time and talent to improve the lives of others in your community and you have overcome medical conditions such as heart disease, stroke, diabetes, cancer, chronic pain, neurological disorders, obesity, or gastrointestinal and urological disorders with the help of medical technology or solutions, apply and accept our Invitation to meet other people like yourselves, who LIVE ON. GIVE ON. DREAM ON.

We’d like to get to know you.
If you are selected, you and your care partner, will receive an invitation to attend five inspirational days including meeting other impressive people using their ‘extra life’ for good, an award ceremony with Medtronic co-founder Earl Bakken and ‘extra life’ inspiration. The event includes air transportation, meals, and lodging for the 2018 Bakken Invitation in Kona, Hawaii from January 9 – 14, 2019. Twelve people who use an eligible medical device or have had a medical procedure or therapy will be selected for this year’s Bakken Invitation.
Medtronic Foundation started the Bakken Invitation program in 2013 to celebrate patients who LIVE ON. GIVE ON. DREAM ON. The program was inspired by Medtronic co-founder Earl Bakken. Earl himself benefitted from medical technology and feels he has been given years of ‘extra life’ which he uses to give back to his community. It is Earl’s enduring dream that anyone who is given ‘extra life’ considers giving back – in big or small ways.
