Can someone with a heart device still have sudden cardiac arrest (SCA)?
Yes, it is possible for someone with a heart device to have SCA, however, the most effective treatment for SCA is defibrillation. There are two forms of delivering shocks to return the heart to a normal rhythm, one of which is through an automated external defibrillator (AED). The other option is implanting an implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD) or cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT), which deliver therapies to treat fast, irregular rhythms.
