Can someone with an implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD) use a cellphone?
Yes, smartphones and other mobile devices are safe to use if a person maintains proper distance between them and the ICD. When using a cellphone, tablet, computer, or other mobile device, keep it at least six inches (15 cm) from the ICD. Avoid placing the cellphone in a pocket near the ICD. Consult the ICD’s manufacturer for additional information and recommendations.
