What happens if an implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD) patient is shocked while driving?
Regardless of location, if a shock occurs, follow the shock plan the doctor helped develop. They may require an in-person visit to perform a checkup or for the patient to send a manual transmission. If two or more shocks happen and/or symptoms persist, seek medical attention immediately. If this happens while driving, safely pull over as soon as possible and stop operation of the vehicle.
