What happens if someone with an insertable cardiac monitor (ICM) has their phone stolen and they are using an app to manage their device?

If a person with an ICM or loop recorder is using a phone to send their heart monitor's data to their doctor and it is stolen, whatever information they can normally access on the app about their heart monitor may be accessible to someone else. However, the device function will not be impacted. The way the heart monitor works cannot be altered by anyone else using the phone. If a person with an ICM is using their phone app to send information to their doctor, their data will not reach their doctor without connection to the app. It is important to establish a connection again as soon as possible. If the phone is replaced or the person with an ICM borrows a relative's, they must download the app again. They should use the same login credentials to sign in as they did before. A person with an ICM should call their heart device manufacturer if they need help with setting up the app on a new phone. If the phone is not replaced, the person should contact their doctor to discuss options.
