What is the difference between an insertable cardiac monitor (ICM) and a patch heart monitor?
Patch heart monitors have a sticky back that attaches to the skin over the heart. They monitor the heart for up to several weeks. Because they attach to the skin, a doctor may recommend some changes to the person’s activities. An ICM, or loop recorder, may be prescribed by someone’s doctor if their symptoms don’t happen often. ICMs are implanted just under your skin and watch a person’s heart for up to several years.
