DESCRIPTION

This course aims  at refining participants’ knowledge of temporal bone anatomy and covers teaching on basic and advanced surgical approaches in Otology and Neurology; it includes live case observation with 3D lenses; surgical skills session through a series of cadaveric dissections including temporal bone dissection skill for middle ear surgery; and surgical case discussions.

The training addresses needs of intermediate level experience surgeons who are interested to develop further surgical skills in Otology procedures.

objective

At the end of the course, participants will have:

Observed live surgery demonstration for 1 or more of the following interventions:

  • Stapedotomy
  • Revision stapedotomy
  • Functional middle ear surgery
  • Myringoplasty
  • Tympanoplasty
  • Hearing implants (Cochlear Implant, bone anchored hearing aids, middle ear implants)
  • Lateral skull base

Practiced through cadaver dissection which may include:

  • Mastoidectomy
  • Posterior tympanotomy
  • Canal wall up procedure
  • Incus & prosthesis interposition (or stapedotomy with prosthesis)
  • Hydroxyapatite cement ossiculoplasty
  • Canal wall down
  • Cochlear implant
  • Endolymphatic sac clipping
  • Facial nerve decompression
  • Translabyrinthine approach
