Connect.Me℠ Remote Sales
My name is Carmen van Heeswijk. I live in The Netherlands and I’m based in Eindhoven. I work for Connect.Me℠ Remote Sales as the Remote Sales Manager.
Connect.Me℠ Remote Sales is an office-based sales force, offering customers direct access to a sales rep based in a Medtronic office. Our Remote Sales teams sell to customers using a digital, multichannel approach instead of visiting them in the hospital. Remote Sales reps are fully trained on our products and use multiple channels (phone, virtual meeting, email, eStore) to support customers. They work closely with our existing sales teams to deliver an exceptional customer experience.
The focus of Remote Sales is mainly on smaller accounts. Many of these smaller customers only occasionally order from us and they want a quick and convenient way to interact with Medtronic, rather than to wait for a sales rep being available to visit them and talk to them face to face. In some cases, for example in the Respiratory & Monitoring Solutions business, the Remote Sales focus is on all customers for a specific portfolio of products.
I have a central coordinating role in further implementing and improving this new service for our customers. My scope is the Benelux and the Nordic countries, and I work for the Minimally Invasive Therapies Group (MITG), Cardiac & Vascular Group (CVG) and until recently, also for the Restorative Therapies Group (RTG).
It is never boring and it’s great to collaborate with the Remote Sales reps from the different business units (BUs). Some of my focus areas are: being a sparring partner/coach for the reps; creating and finding synergies between the different business units; improving cross-BU collaboration and, of course, sharing best practices is also really important.
When I was still young, I didn’t know exactly what to do after completing my education (Marketing Management). So, I accidentally started as a Customer Care Rep in 1999 (at Covidien, which became part of Medtronic in 2015). My next job was Sales & Marketing Assistant, which I held for many years. After this, it was time for a new challenge and I took on a position in Field Sales for MITG Surgical Innovations which I fulfilled for approximately 12 years.
After that, I coordinated the Connect.Me activities in the Benelux for more than a year, combining it with my Field Rep role. Last year on 1 Oct, 2019, I started in my new role as Remote Sales Manager. I have been with the company for 21 years now, and I am still here. So, Medtronic is actually the only company I’ve been working for.
I work for multiple business units and they all have different operating models for Remote Sales, because every business unit deals with different stakeholders and products and has different needs. There are still a lot of aspects and activities which we can combine and harmonize across the businesses, so where possible, I am trying to find and create synergies and implement those across the businesses.
There are many good things. As a team, we work closely together. It is a very pleasant team to work with. We share best practices within the group and learn from each other. This way we can keep on improving and bringing Remote Sales to the next level. Remote Sales is the future and I'm happy to be part of that.
A lot of things, that’s why I have already been working for the company for so many years. It’s still a pleasure to work for such a great and innovative company as Medtronic. I’m proud to work for Medtronic.

My most memorable experience within Medtronic is when I started in Field Sales and needed to attend four weeks of training for sutures in Elancourt, France. Four weeks about sutures, can you imagine? This training was very intense. I’m so happy that I’ve experienced all of this, because in the end, I learned a lot from it.
