John Liddicoat, M.D., was appointed Executive Vice President and President of the Americas Region in September 2018 and Executive Vice President and President of Enterprise Technology & Innovation in May 2022. He serves as a member of the Medtronic Executive Committee.
Covering the U.S., Latin America, and Canada, the Americas Region is responsible for 55% share of total Medtronic revenue. Leading with passion and purpose, John and his leadership team are focused on helping Medtronic become the undisputed leader in healthcare technology by improving the customer experience, expanding patient access to care, accelerating growth through commercial leadership, and executing with integrity and operational excellence.
John also leads Medtronic’s Enterprise Technology & Innovation (ET&I) organization, which leverages the latest advances in cutting-edge technology to fuel business growth through innovation and improve patients’ lives worldwide. Additionally, he serves as the executive sponsor of the Medtronic R&D Council — comprised of senior R&D leaders who drive key strategies for talent, capabilities, and technology platforms.
John began his career as a cardiothoracic surgeon. However, inspired by the Medtronic Mission, John turned in his scrubs for a new career path with Medtronic in 2006. Prior to his current role, John held various leadership positions throughout Medtronic, including SVP and President, Cardiac Rhythm & Heart Failure division; SVP and President, Structural Heart division; VP and GM, Structural Heart Disease business; and VP, Atrial Fibrillation Technologies.
Within Medtronic, John is the executive sponsor of the Asian Impact at Medtronic (AIM) diversity network, as well as the executive sponsor of the Medtronic Marketing Leadership Council. Outside the company, John serves on the Board of Directors for Gillette Children’s and on the Board of Directors for the medtech industry association, AdvaMed.
He completed his surgical training in general and cardiothoracic surgery at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore and practiced at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston where he also held an Assistant Professor of Surgery position at Harvard Medical School. John earned his MBA from Boston University, a Doctor of Medicine from the University of Chicago, and bachelor’s degree from the University of Michigan. In addition, he founded two medical device companies and served as a consultant to several venture capital firms and medical device companies.
