Investing in Professional Growth and Wellness

Recognizing that our workforce is our strongest asset, we invest in employee career development that also benefits our company, our partners, and our patients. We engage employees, inviting feedback and encouraging them to have a voice within Medtronic.

In addition to supporting employee professional growth, we also maintain a strong environmental, health, and safety management system and a global wellness program. Together, these efforts recognize the personal worth and dignity of all employees — tenant five of the Medtronic Mission.


EMPLOYEE DEVELOPMENT AND WELLNESS HIGHLIGHTS FROM FISCAL YEAR 2018

We support professional growth by facilitating career conversations and making development opportunities available to employees. These investments help accelerate careers while enhancing team expertise and productivity. In FY18:

  • We invested more than $78.5 million in employee training and development programs.
  • We offered more than 570 online learning tools and courses through our Performance and Career Development portal.

We are dedicated to the safety, health, and wellness of our employees and continually address safety in our operations. We also support and encourage employees to take steps to promote their own physical, emotional, and financial well-being. To that end we:

  • Designed a new environmental, health, and safety (EHS) information system that will lead to better integrated safety reporting.
  • Invest in our employees through our global wellness program, Healthier Together. Nearly every Medtronic employee globally has access to this program; in FY18, 66% of employees participated.

We value our employees’ diligence, innovation, and integrity. To honor their efforts, our global employee recognition program Recognize! empowers managers and employees to reward achievements, celebrate milestones, share appreciation, and sustain our culture.

In FY18, we recognized nearly 60,000 employees, including more than 3,000 for outstanding ethical behavior and 7,000 for quality.
