Cardiac Monitoring (Insertable)
Insertable cardiac monitors are automatically activated and patient activated monitoring systems that record subcutaneous ECG to help you make informed decisions about patients with arrhythmias or unexplained syncope and/or palpitations.
Summary
An insertable cardiac monitor (ICM) is a small device, inserted in the upper chest, that continuously monitors heart rhythm and records subcutaneous ECG automatically. An insertable cardiac monitor is indicated for:
- Patients with clinical syndromes or situations at increased risk of cardiac arrhythmias
- Patients who experience transient symptoms such as dizziness, palpitation, syncope, and chest pain, that may suggest a cardiac arrhythmia
Diagnosing Syncope
The Reveal® Insertable Cardiac Monitor can record an ECG at the time of fainting. In fact, infrequent unexplained syncope may be most easily evaluated by an insertable cardiac monitor.1 With monitoring for up to 3 years, the Reveal ICM may help confirm or rule out life-threatening arrhythmias as the cause of recurrent but infrequent fainting. It may also direct effective treatment, subsequently reducing syncopal events.2
Atrial Fibrillation (AF) and Atrial Tachyarrhythmia (AT) Detection
Short-term, intermittent monitoring options can be inaccurate for identifying patients with AF.3 The Reveal XT Insertable Cardiac Monitor overcomes these limitations with an exclusive AF detection algorithm that may detect the presence of atrial fibrillation and atrial tachyarrhythmias, even when your patient is asymptomatic. The Reveal XT ICM also monitors AT and AF burden to assess whether medical treatment is necessary or should be adjusted.
Important Safety Information
A patient's particular medical condition may dictate whether or not a subcutaneous, chronically implanted device can be tolerated.
