Programmable Infusion System
Introduction to the SynchroMed® Infusion System

The Medtronic SynchroMed® Infusion System is an implantable, programmable drug delivery system used to treat pain, spasticity, and cancer.

This system has been commercially available since 1988. The newest model available is the SynchroMed II infusion system, which consists of the following components:

The SynchroMed Infusion System is indicated for:
  • Chronic intrathecal or epidural infusion of sterile, preservative-free morphine sulfate for chronic, intractable pain of malignant and/or benign origin;
  • Chronic intrathecal infusion of preservative-free ziconotide sterile solution for the management of severe chronic pain;
  • Chronic infusion of Lioresal® Injection (baclofen injection) for severe spasticity of spinal or cerebral origin;
  • Chronic intravascular infusion of chemotherapy for the treatment of cancer:
    • Floxuridine (FUDR)
    • Methotrexate

SynchroMed Infusion System for Pain Management
