How should I talk to my doctor about my symptoms?
If your urinary symptoms are getting in the way of your daily life, it's time to talk with your doctor. Many men don't bring up these problems because they're embarrassed, or because they think their symptoms are just part of getting older.
While enlarged prostate may be a fact of life for many men, you don't have to live with bothersome urinary symptoms. There are many treatments available for the symptoms of BPH. Your doctor is probably already treating many other patients with similar symptoms.
Be open and honest with your doctor about how your urinary symptoms are affecting your life, including your:
- Sleep
- Sex life
- Work
- Travel
- Social life
- Hobbies
- Mental health
If you're already being treated for BPH symptoms but you're not getting enough relief or you're experiencing side effects, ask your doctor about what other treatments might be right for you.
