St George’s Hospital and MedPoints
Sustaining the future of a DBS service
Operating under their patient-centred vision to deliver outstanding care with every interaction, St George’s continues to make the most of the hundreds of options on the Medtronic Exchange to choose from. One of several investments, MedPoints has brought them a stereotactic frame used in their world-class Neurosurgery department.
St George’s Hospital is one of the largest teaching hospitals in the UK, employing over 10,000 staff and, along with its sister site, providing essential healthcare services to a population of 1.3 million people. This includes their world-renowned Neurosurgery department, a centre of excellence for brain and spinal surgery.
As part of their MedPoints partnership with Medtronic, the Neurosurgery team at St George’s made purchases across Deep Brain Stimulation, Spinal Cord Stimulation and Intrathecal Drug Delivery, which earned them valuable MedPoints to continue their investment in providing high-quality care to their patients.
Working closely with their Medtronic Neuromodulation representative, the team at St George’s Hospital had the freedom to explore the hundreds of products and services in the Medtronic Exchange catalogue for those that would best complement their service.
So far, they have decided to invest some of their points on a state-of-the-art stereotactic frame for precise, minimally-invasive neurosurgery, and as a result, MedPoints helped to facilitate the vital continuation of the Deep Brain Stimulation Service. With their remaining points, they continue to explore staffing a specialist physiotherapist within the department, as well as digital platforms to enhance patient outcomes.
St George’s Hospital is just one of the 30 Trusts across DBS, SCS and ITDD that have signed up to the MedPoints scheme, receiving millions of pounds in investment so far.
Our MedPoints partnership has allowed us to invest in our Neurosurgery department beyond the scope of our original purchase, reaching our goals for staff and patients even sooner and allowing us to continue our vital DBS Service.”— Erlick Pereira, Consultant Neurosurgeon, St George’s Hospital, London
I would absolutely recommend for any of my colleagues in other trusts or departments to have an open conversation with the MedPoints team and see how the partnership could benefit them.”— Erlick Pereira, Consultant Neurosurgeon, St George’s Hospital, London
