Coronary Artery Disease (CAD)

Dennis' Story

Coronary Artery Disease (CAD)

When Dennis's family doctor asked Dennis how he was feeling during a routine exam more than 3 years ago, the 54-year-old nonsmoker from Maryland mentioned he'd been feeling tired and sluggish.

Unknowingly, this remark may have saved his life. His doctor referred Dennis to a cardiologist for a stress test, which soon revealed a very serious condition – one of his coronary arteries had a 95% blockage. The cardiologist told Dennis that he was "a heart attack waiting to happen" – it wasn't a question of "if" he might have a heart attack, but "when."

Astounded, Dennis found himself two days later at Baltimore's Sinai Hospital, awaiting a stent catheterization procedure to alleviate the blockage in the artery. Having agreed to enrol in Medtronic's Endeavor III clinical trial, Dennis was one of the first patients in the United States to receive the Endeavor zotarolimus-eluting coronary stent - our first generation drug eluting stent no longer used in the UK.

Two days after the procedure, he was released from the hospital, amazed by how good he felt. Dennis now describes his energy level as "incredible." "It's like being born again," he says. "Absolutely amazing!"

During one of Dennis's follow-up appointments for the clinical trial, his cardiologist found another blockage in a different artery. This time, Dennis was given a Driver coronary stent. Once again, Dennis said the procedure left him feeling great." I can't believe how much better I feel," he says. "Completely rejuvenated!"

With his newfound energy, Dennis has started an exercise routine and has enrolled in a wellness program for cardiac patients.
