About The Surgery
Thyroid Conditions
Many thyroid disorders are best treated with surgery. Your surgeon will discuss this with you.
What Is Thyroid Surgery?
Traditional Surgery
Thyroid surgery is typically performed through a 2–8 cm incision (cut) in the skin of the lower part of the neck. The surgery is done under a general anaesthetic and the surgeon removes all or part of the thyroid gland. The incision is usually made so that it falls in the fold of the skin in the neck, making it less visible.
