A typical bariatric clinic package covers the following types of services. What, specifically, do the clinics you are considering offer?

  • Pre-surgery care
    This can include meetings with the bariatric surgeon and other clinic staff. In addition to answering your questions, your team will make sure they have everything they need to know about your current health status. They will also weigh and measure you and take all necessary tests. 
  • Nutritional counselling
    Nutritional counselling is designed to ensure your success after surgery by preparing you for the many lifestyle changes you’ll have to make after the procedure. For example, your clinic’s dietician will help you develop realistic goals for healthy weight loss, discuss food and water intake, address your need for vitamins and exercise, and more.
  • Psychological counselling
    It’s just as important to be sure you’re mentally ready for surgery as physically ready. Your expectations must be realistic, you must understand and agree to the impact of surgery, and you must be able to change your lifestyle. Your clinic might want you to meet with a psychologist.
  • The surgical procedure
    The big day! You and your surgeon will have determined well ahead of time which of the different procedures is right for you. While surgery is a significant milestone on your weight loss journey, it is certainly not the end of it.
  • The hospital stay
    The length of your stay will vary according to which procedure your surgeon has performed. In general, you can expect to be hospitalised anywhere from 1-2 days to a week.
  • Aftercare
    Follow-up appointments are key. In addition to having your recovery monitored, you will benefit from working with a dietician and other support personnel. You should not have to face the changes that go along with adapting to a new body shape and body image alone...
