Treatment Options for Essential Tremor

Essential Tremor

Medtronic Deep Brain Stimulation Therapy is an adjustable, reversible treatment option for essential tremor. DBS Therapy may give you greater control over your movement, making everyday activities easier.

Although there is no cure for essential tremor, Medtronic Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) Therapy is safe and effective when used for appropriate patients, and has been proven to reduce tremors associated with essential tremor.1

Drug Therapies

A medication is often tried first. Medications do not help most people, and can have intolerable side effects like sleepiness, dizziness, or thinking problems. Injection of botulinum toxin may provide temporary relief of head tremor, but tends to weaken the hands.2

Medtronic DBS Therapy for Essential Tremor Control

DBS Therapy may help control symptoms of essential tremor through stimulation with a medical device. The stimulation is delivered to one side of the body and is used to treat tremor in one arm and hand. You may be a candidate for this therapy if you have essential tremor not adequately controlled by medications and the tremor is keeping you from what you need to do. Medtronic DBS Therapy may help control symptoms, but it's not a cure. Your symptoms will return when the system is turned off.
