Employee Engagement

Our greatest strength lies in the quality and integrity of our employees and the passion they share for saving and enhancing the lives of others, so we continually strive to provide a positive work environment that welcomes people with differing backgrounds and perspectives and helps them grow both professionally and personally.

Our goal is to create and sustain a workplace where all employees are fully engaged in corporate citizenship.

Diversity and Inclusion

Medtronic leverages the varied perspectives, backgrounds, cultures and generations of our workforce through a Global Inclusion, Diversity and Engagement (GIDE) strategy that integrates diversity, inclusion and engagement into our corporate practices, processes and systems. Our GIDE framework accelerates results by engaging leaders, managers and employee groups to recruit, retain and recognize employees who advance diversity within the company.

The Medtronic Inclusion Advisory Group, composed of executive committee members and vice presidents, shapes our company-wide GIDE strategy and oversees more than 20 local Inclusion Coalitions that are associated with Medtronic businesses and regions around the world. The coalitions create and implement action plans relevant to their local markets.

In addition, our Employee Resource Groups (ERG) and global ERG networks connect employees with common backgrounds or orientations. Group activities support employee development, education, training, and community involvement. The groups also provide insight and counsel to various business functions, such as Human Resources and Community Affairs, as well as senior leadership teams.

Medtronic University also integrates diversity and inclusion into development programs such as New Employee Orientation, Becoming a Medtronic Manager, Experienced Leader Training, and Director Development Training.

Career Development

Medtronic offers employees several career development tools and resources, such as customized development plans, self-assessment and feedback tools, mentoring and peer advisor programs, Medtronic University online courses, and tuition reimbursement and scholarships.

We also provide a full portfolio of leadership development programs for all levels and a corporate Leadership Development Rotation program for new MBA employees who take two 12- to 18-month assignments, which expose them to our core businesses, therapies and leaders.

Our Volunteer Grants encourage employees to pursue causes close to their hearts by lending their time and talents to the local community, whether it's working at a local food shelf, coaching youth sports, or mentoring students. For every 25 hours of employee service, the Medtronic Foundation awards $500 annually to nonprofit/non-government organizations. An additional $500 is available as a matching gift.

Project 6 is an annual global volunteer program that encourages employees to carry out the sixth tenet of our Mission – "to maintain good citizenship as a company" – in their local communities during the month of June through employee-led volunteer projects such as meal distribution, clothing drives, and cleaning local parks and beaches.
