Gain easy access to the benefits of BIS™ technology

The BIS™ LoC (Level of Consciousness) 2 channel OEM module delivers the latest performance features of BIS™ brain monitoring technology in a compact, portable, plug-and-play design.

With an integrated clamp for easy mounting, the BIS™ LoC 2 channel OEM module, when integrated into a BIS™-ready patient monitor, provides easy access to the precision and benefits of BIS™ brain monitoring technology.

BIS™ technology:

  • Helps customise anaesthetic dosing to individual patient physiologies.
  • Indicates hypnotic effect through the easy-to-read BIS™ index.
  • Facilitates improved patient outcomes1.

The BIS™ LoC 2 channel OEM module delivers a full array of BIS™ brain monitoring parameter data, including:

  • BIS™ (Bispectral Index) Value — 0 to 100
  • Signal Quality Indicatory (SQI) — 0 to 100
  • EMG (Electromyograph) Indicator Bar — indicative of muscle activity and other high-frequency artifact
  • EEG Waveform Display — One or two channels of filtered electroencephalogram (EEG) waveforms
  • Suppression Ratio (SR) — 0% to 100% of time over the last 63-second period that the signal is considered to be in the suppressed state, indicating when an isoelectric (flatline) condition may exist.
  • Burst Count – Bursts/Minute — used with BIS™ extended use sensor
  • BIS™ Trend Graph — plots the value of the Bispectral Index™ over time
  • Automated BIS™ Sensor Check — enhanced for improved sensor check

The following information is provided to the patient monitor by the BISx™ system:
Bispectral Index (BIS™) 0 to 100
Electromyographic Strength (EMG) 30 to 80 dB (where 1 μV2 = 40 dB)
Signal Quality Index (SQI) 0 to 100%
Suppression Ratio (SR) 0 to 100%
Spectral Edge Frequency (SEF) 0.5 to 30.0 Hz
Total Power 40 to 100 dB (where 1 μV2 = 40 dB)
Burst Count 0 to 30 (with an Extend Sensor only)
EEG (Continuous, two channel, real-time EEG waveform)
Noise (EEG waveform) < 0.3 μV RMS (2.0 μV peak-to-peak): 0.25 Hz to 50 Hz
BIS™ Numeric Update Frequency Once per second
EEG Bandwidth 0.25 Hz to 100 Hz (-3 dB) +/- 10%
Electrode to skin impedances are continuously measured
Users can select from a range of low-pass and high-pass filters that are available for artifact rejection. The low-pass filters allow the rejection of muscle artifacts. The high-pass filters allow the rejection of ECG signal interference. In addition, a notch filter suppresses line frequency interference.
The BIS™ XP technology built into the BISx system suppresses interference from electrocautery, EMG and other high frequency noise sources.

Safety Specifications
The BISx™ system complies with the essential requirements of the Medical Devices Directive 93/42/EEC, as amended by Directive 2007/47/EC, as well as IEC 60601-2 26:2002 and IEC 60601-1-2003. It is a Type BF applied part. It has internal optical coupling and an isolation transformer for patient isolation. It is protected against damage from defibrillation as long as the sensor is not located between the defibrillator pads and is resilient to artifact from electrosurgery.
Data Exchange Summary
The BISx™ system communicates with the host monitor through asynchronous serial communication (RS-232). The protocol is packet oriented with binary data and ACK/NAK handshaking. The host monitor can:
• Choose the communication protocol by an input select line in the host cable
• Request BISx™ hardware and software revision information
• Send commands to the BISx™ system to change smoothing rate (making the BIS™ parameter more or less sensitive to sudden changes in patient measurements), change filter settings and initiate a sensor check
The information specified above in the “Output Parameters” section is transmitted from the BISx™ system to the host once per second. Each of these processed variables packets is 198 bytes long. Additionally, the BISx™ system will transmit EEG waveform data to the host eight times per second. Each of these raw EEG packets is 154 bytes long.
