    Overview

    The Medtronic External Research Program supports investigator-initiated research that contributes to advancing scientific knowledge, improving clinical outcomes, and addressing unmet patient needs, in alignment with our Mission to alleviate pain, restore health, and extend life.

    Respiratory

    • Nellcor™ pulse oximetry use in challenging conditions (e.g., low perfusion, dark skin pigmentation) in the NICU/PICU/L&D and acute care (OR, ICU, ER)
    • Evaluation of Nellcor™ pulse oximetry performance vs other pulse oximeters in acute and critical care settings
    • Impact of Microstream™ capnography monitoring during moderate to deep sedation on clinical, economic, and workflow outcomes
    • Clinical, economic, and workflow improvements using Microstream™ capnography monitoring during patient recovery
    • Improved secretion management and reduced ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP) using Shiley™ endotracheal tubes
    • Clinical and economic outcomes with Shiley™ pediatric oral/nasal endotracheal tubes with TaperGuard™ cuff
    • Improved clinical outcomes, including comfort, fit, and function, using Shiley™ tracheostomy tubes and accessories 
    • Clinical outcomes associated with use of the DAR™ closed suction patient access valve
    • Reduced incidence of VAP with DAR™ closed suction and filters
    • Reduced cuff pressure variance between routine checks using the Puritan Bennett™ cuff pressure manager

    • Otology procedures including active facial nerve monitoring
    • Head and neck procedures using NIM NerveTrend™ technology or NIM Nerveassure™ technology

    Pelvic health

    Sacral neuromodulation (SNM)

    • Expand access, improve efficacy, and simplify SNM

    Tibial neuromodulation

    • Expand access, explore stimulation parameters, and improve efficacy

    Digital health

    • Increase utilization of digital tools to expand access, improve practice efficiency, or reduce post-implant management
