PREPARING YOUR PATIENT FOR AN MRI SCAN SPINAL CORD STIMULATION

HELP PATIENTS UNDERSTAND HOW TO PREPARE FOR THEIR MRI SCAN

To help reduce uncertainty at the center and the possibility of patients being denied an MRI, instruct patients to bring the following materials to the radiology center:

  • The completed Real-time MRI Patient Eligibility Form: Confirms the patient’s scan eligibility
  • Patient programmer: Activates MRI mode, identifies MRI eligibility, and turns the neurostimulator on or off.
  • Medtronic patient ID card: Identifies implanted components

CONFIRM PATIENT FAMILIARITY WITH PATIENT PROGRAMMER

Confirm the patient knows how to use the patient programmer to activate MRI Mode and turn the neurostimulator on or off. Instructions are provided in the Real-time MRI Eligibility Form that you complete and give to your patient to take to the radiology center.

CONFIRM RADIOLOGY CENTER CAPABILITY

If your pain stimulation patient is eligible only for a head MRI scan, confirm the radiology center has the necessary transmit/receive head coil equipment.

REAL-TIME MRI PATIENT ELIGIBILITY FORM

Complete this form to alert radiology staff about MRI eligibility for your implanted patient.

There are two forms: one for the Restore™ family systems and one for the Intellis™ SureScan™ MRI system. Each form includes instructions for activating MRI Mode and turning stimulation back on after the MRI scan.
