SAFETY DATA SHEETS PRODUCT STEWARDSHIP

THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST IN OBTAINING A SAFETY DATA SHEET

A safety data sheet (SDS) is an information sheet prepared about chemicals or certain types of products containing chemical substances and includes information such as the properties of each chemical; the physical, health, and environmental health hazards; protective measures; and safety precautions for handling, storing, and transporting the chemical or product. It is required when the physical and/or chemical properties of a chemical or mixture are considered to be hazardous which require warnings and notice for anyone who may come into contact with the product due to the potential for a physical or health risk during handling, storage or transportation.

Medtronic supplies many product(s) that meet the definition of an article under the following regulatory requirements:

  • United Nations Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labeling of Chemicals (GHS)
  • European Union (EU) Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation, and Restriction of Chemicals (REACH)
  • United States (US) Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA) Hazard Communication Standard
  • Canadian Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS)
  • Australian Work Health and Safety (WHS)

An article is defined as a manufactured item:

  • which is formed to a specific shape or design during manufacture;
  • which has end use function(s) dependent in whole or in part upon its shape or design during end use; and
  • which, under normal conditions of use does not release more than very small quantities, e.g., minute or trace amounts of a hazardous chemical, and does not pose a physical or health risk to employees.

Typically, an SDS is not required for many of our product(s).
