MyCareLink Monitor Program Overview

Telephone companies are updating their cellular networks, which your MyCareLink monitor relies on to send your implanted heart device data to your clinic. To ensure your monitor is compatible with these updated networks, Medtronic is providing a free USB Cellular Stick to connect to your monitor, allowing you to continue sending your implanted heart device data to your clinic.* This upgrade does not affect the normal operation of your implanted heart device. Proceed with upcoming transmissions as planned until you receive your free USB Cellular Stick.

Your Upgrade Package

In the coming weeks, you will receive a blue envelope from Medtronic. The envelope will include:

  • Program Description
  • Step-by-Step Instructions
  • Patient Manual
  • USB Cellular Stick
  • Yellow Tool — used to remove blue sticker on right side of the MyCareLink monitor.

1. What Action do I Need to Take?

Once you have received your free USB Cellular Stick, connect the USB Cellular Stick to your MyCareLink monitor. Follow the directions included in the package for step-by-step instructions. This upgrade does not affect the normal operation of your implanted heart device.

2. Will I Lose My Connection Right Now?

No, we do not expect you to lose your connection before receiving the free USB Cellular Stick. You may lose connection in the future if you do not connect the USB Cellular Stick to your monitor once you receive it in the mail.

3. When do I Need to Take Action?

You should connect your free USB Cellular Stick to your MyCareLink monitor right when you receive the package in the mail to ensure you remain connected. Please note, your free USB Cellular Stick must remain connected to your monitor at all times to maintain connectivity.

4. Do I Need to Contact my Clinic? Does my Clinic Know I am Updating my Monitor?

You do not need to contact your clinic. Medtronic has informed your clinic of this upgrade program.

5. How do I Know I Set Up my Monitor and USB Cellular Stick Correctly?

Your MyCareLink monitor should look like the image. The cell signal icon may show that you are connected to a 2G, 3G, or 4G network. You will also see an icon of the free USB Cellular Stick with a green check mark.

6. What do I do After I Have Connected my New USB Cellular Stick?

No action is needed after you have connected the USB Cellular Stick to your MyCareLink monitor. After connecting your USB Cellular Stick, be sure to keep it connected at all times. This upgrade does not affect the normal operation of your implanted heart device.

Program Overview

Telephone companies are updating their cellular networks, which your CareLink 2490 monitor and attached WireX accessory rely on to send your implanted heart device data to your clinic. To ensure your monitor is compatible with these updated networks, Medtronic is providing a free telephone cord to connect to your monitor.* You may use the free telephone cord or an extra telephone cord you have in your home. This upgrade does not affect the normal operation of your implanted heart device. Proceed with upcoming transmissions as planned until you receive your free telephone cord.

1. How do I Know if I Have an Active Phone Line?

If you have telephone service through a local phone company or your cable TV company, your phone line will work with your monitor.

2. What if I Don’t Have an Active Phone Line?

Call Medtronic Stay Connected toll-free at 1-866-237-1213 to discuss additional options to keep your monitor connected.

3. What Action do I Need to Take with My CareLink 2490 Monitor?

Once you have received a telephone cord from Medtronic, disconnect the WireX accessory and connect your CareLink 2490 monitor to a telephone jack. Use the telephone cord in this package or one you already have at your home to connect the monitor to a working telephone jack, then test your connection. Once you have completed these steps and tested your connection, no further action is needed. 

4. What if I Already Have a Telephone Cord?

If you already have an extra telephone cord in your home, you may use that to connect to your CareLink 2490 monitor and do not need to wait for your free telephone cord to arrive in the mail.

5. What do I do with the WireX Accessory?

Once you have disconnected your WireX accessory that is plugged into your CareLink 2490 monitor, you no longer need it and may discard it.

6. Will I Lose my Connection with my CareLink 2490 Monitor Right Now?

No, we do not expect you to lose your connection before receiving the free telephone cord. You may lose connection in the future if you do not connect the telephone cord to your monitor and test your connection once you receive it in the mail.

7. When do I Need to Take Action with my CareLink 2490 Monitor?

You should connect your CareLink 2490 monitor to your telephone jack right when you receive the package in the mail to ensure you remain connected.

8. Do I Need to Contact my Clinic? Does my Clinic Know I am Updating my CareLink 2490 Monitor?

You do not need to contact your clinic. Medtronic has informed your clinic of this upgrade program.

9. How do I Know I Set Up my Monitor and Free Telephone Cord Correctly?

Follow the below steps to test your connection. 

To Test Your Connection:

1. Press and hold the Start/Stop or Power button. Continue holding the Start/Stop or Power button until you reach Step 4.
2. The Power Status and Reading Status will flash a green light for 10 seconds.
3. The monitor light will jump to the Telephone Line Status section.
4. Release the Start/Stop or Power button when you see this.
5. Your monitor will dial out to test the connection.
6. When you see the bullseye light up, you have successfully connected.

10. What do I do if I Have DSL Phone Service?

You will need to insert a DSL filter into the telephone jack and connect the telephone cord from the monitor into the DSL filter. If you do not have a DSL filter, you may call Medtronic Stay Connected at
1-866-237-1213.

11. What do I do After I Have Connected my Monitor to the Telephone Jack?

After you have connected your monitor to the telephone jack, you will need to test your connection. After you follow the test your connection instructions and see the bullseye light up, no further action is needed. Your monitor will continue normal operation.

Medtronic Monitor Upgrade Program Messaging Terms

1. To ensure Medtronic patients with implanted heart devices remain connected to their clinics as telephone companies update their cellular networks, we will be sending messages to patients to remind them to connect their free monitor upgrade pieces they will be receiving in the mail.

2. You can cancel the SMS service at any time. Just text "STOP" to the short code. After you send the SMS message "STOP" to us, we will send you an SMS message to confirm that you have been unsubscribed. After this, you will no longer receive SMS messages from us.

3. If you are experiencing issues with the messaging program you can reply with the keyword HELP for more assistance, or you can get help directly at rs.homemonitors@medtronic.com or 1-866-470-7709.
