April 7, 2020 – In the midst of a global health crisis, the Medtronic Foundation is committed to supporting front line health workers and nonprofit organisations around the globe. In addition to direct financial contributions, Medtronic employees looking to give back are getting a boost to ensure their own charitable donations go even further.
Now through July 31, 2020, the Medtronic Foundation is increasing its employee and retiree matched giving program, offering a 2:1 match for monetary donations made to any eligible nonprofit across the world. Increasing charitable contributions is one way the Medtronic Foundation is helping to elevate the COVID-19 response, empowering 90,000 Medtronic employees to identify local needs and direct resources to their communities.
The Medtronic Foundation is also making employee volunteerism easier by offering both virtual and skills-based opportunities that support organisations responding to the pandemic.
“Having the opportunity to personally make more of an impact in my community is what the Medtronic Mission is all about,” said Amy Jimmerson, a Medtronic clinical monitoring director in Memphis, TN. "We’re all eager to help during this difficult time, and this just makes it a little easier.”
In March, the Medtronic Foundation announced an additional $10 million in contributions to COVID-19 global relief efforts, adding to an initial donation from Medtronic and the Medtronic Foundation of $1.2 million in February. The most recent funding will help more than a dozen organisations providing critical support and equipment, including personal protective equipment (PPE) to frontline healthcare workers. The donation will also be used by organisations for COVID-19 training and preparation, and to provide health, economic and food services to vulnerable populations.
“We have a responsibility to be a leader on global issues impacting access to healthcare and supporting local organisations working hard in our communities,” said Paurvi Bhatt, President of the Medtronic Foundation. “We are committed to supporting the courageous frontline workers who are delivering critical services to those in need. We also recognise that during these challenging times, the needs are great and varied which is why we are offering this 2:1 match to all eligible registered nonprofits (501c) versus a limited subset. It is important that Medtronic employees give where they feel passion and a connection.”
