Inclusion and diversity efforts are essential to our purpose. Working in a vibrant, diverse, and inclusive environment gives every employee inspiration, energy, and creativity to fulfill our Mission. A stronger and united Medtronic means we’re continuing to drive innovation and create powerful solutions that help our partners deliver better patient outcomes and contribute to human welfare.

We believe that diversity drives better decision-making and that the work environment is greatly improved when employees can be their best selves. We strengthen Medtronic by hiring and developing diverse talent, creating a culture of inclusivity, and measuring our performance with key indicators such as representation and pay equity. Our performance in the social arena, including the environment we create for employees and our support of community partners, is at the core of our environmental, social, and governance (ESG) strategy and will remain a focus as we evolve and grow.

From a pay perspective, we believe everyone should be paid equally for the work they do. Annually, we conduct an analysis of pay between our employees to address inequity.

Medtronic has global Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) to promote a grassroots approach to uniting around common interests and advancing a culture of inclusivity. To further accelerate the careers of women, LGBTQ+, and United States ethnically diverse talent, we have five Diversity Networks dedicated to helping employees succeed both professionally and personally, with objectives that are tied to our business strategy.

INCLUSION, DIVERSITY, AND EQUITY — Fiscal Year 2020 (FY20) Highlights

We continue to make strides in building an inclusive, diverse, and equitable workplace. In FY20 Medtronic:

  • Achieved 100% gender pay equity in a number of countries, including the United States and 99% gender pay equity globally. In the United States we also achieved 99% ethnicity pay equity and we are committed to closing all pay equity gaps
  • Earned the prestigious Catalyst award for our robust approach to supporting and accelerating progress for women in the workplace
  • Made progress on our 2020 diversity goals:
    • Ethnically diverse talent held 23% of U.S. management and above positions at Medtronic, exceeding our 2020 target of at least 20%
    • Globally, women represented 50% of our workforce, 39% of our management positions, and 32% of revenue-generating management functions
  • Supported 22,000+ employees across 65 countries involved in employee-led affinity groups that strengthen connections between employees of many different backgrounds, cultures, and interests
