AFTER SURGERY
TARGETED DRUG DELIVERY
IMMEDIATELY AFTER SURGERY
Following your surgery, you will likely feel some discomfort at both incision sites (in your back and your abdomen) for several days. You may experience a headache for a few days.
Your doctor may prescribe medication to relieve the pain caused by surgery and antibiotics to prevent infection. If you notice any swelling, pain, or redness near your incision, notify your doctor.
TAKE IT EASY
After the surgery, your doctor may recommend that you restrict your activity. This allows time for scar tissue to form and anchor the catheter in place. It’s important to remember that even after the initial healing period, some activities may cause wear on your catheter. Talk to your doctor for more information.
BEGINNING THERAPY
You will begin receiving therapy as soon as your pump is filled with drug and programmed. Your doctor will adjust the delivery of medication to achieve a balance between pain relief and managing side effects.

Alleviate Unpredictable Pain with myPTM
If you were prescribed it at time of implant, you received the optional myPTM™ personal therapy manager. This handheld device allows you to receive an extra dose of pain medication called a bolus, when needed and within physician set limits. With myPTM, you can easily track your expected refill date, review boluses remaining and see how much time remains before your next bolus is available. Talk to your doctor about how this device fits with your therapy goals.
