MRI AND DIAGNOSTIC TESTING COMPATIBILITY

The Medtronic SynchroMed™ II pump is designed to be safe under certain conditions for patients who may require an MRI scan.* The pump is also compatible with many other diagnostic tests.

If you or the clinician has questions regarding your pump and any medical or dental procedure, please reference the SynchroMed II Patient Manual or call Medtronic at 1-800-633-8766.

PREPARING FOR AN MRI

The SynchroMed II pump was designed to be MRI safe under certain conditions. When your doctor recommends an MRI, you will need to:

  • Tell the doctor (e.g. orthopedist, oncologist) who ordered your MRI that you have an implanted Medtronic pump.
  • Tell your pain specialist that you will be receiving an MRI.
  • Be ready to show your Medtronic patient identification card during the MRI appointment. This card allows the doctor or MRI technologist to identify your device and confirm MRI compatibility.
  • Following your MRI, your doctor should check your pump to confirm it is working properly.

PREPARING FOR A DIAGNOSTIC TEST

The SynchroMed II pump is unlikely to be impacted by CT or CAT scans, diagnostic ultrasound, diagnostic x-rays or fluoroscopy, electrocautery, or MEG or PET scans.

Prior to receiving a diagnostic test, tell your doctor that you have an implanted Medtronic drug delivery system.

SAFETY RESOURCES FOR YOUR HEALTHCARE TEAM

If you encounter a doctor or MRI technologist who seems unclear about MRI safety related to your Medtronic drug delivery system, show him or her your Medtronic Patient ID Card. The front of your card lists the model number of your drug delivery system. Your doctor can enter that model number on our MRI resource library, listed on the back of your ID card. The website will provide FDA-approved information for safely conducting an MRI scan with your Medtronic drug delivery device.
