What are the signs of AUB?

Abnormal uterine bleeding (AUB) refers to menstrual bleeding that is heavier, longer, or less predictable than your typical period. AUB has many possible causes which include noncancerious growths like fibroids and polyps. Some of the signs of AUB include:4

  • Cycle length is greater than 35 days4
  • Cycle length is less than 21 days4
  • Heavier and increased menstrual bleeding4
  • Irregular episodes of bleeding4 occurring outside of menstrual cycle4
  • Longer than usual periods (lasting longer than seven days)4
  • Bleeding after menopause4

What are the symptoms of uterine fibroids?

Uterine fibroids are common, noncancerous growths that develop in or around the uterus. While many people with fibroids do not experience symptoms, others may notice:5

  • Heavy and/or painful periods5
  • Bloated feeling5
  • Abdominal enlargement5
  • Lower back pain5
  • A frequent need to urinate5
  • Constipation5
  • Pain or discomfort during sex5

What are the symptoms of uterine polyps?

Endometrial polyps are most common among women approaching menopause and are frequently diagnosed in women in their 40s and 50s.6

  • Irregular menstrual bleeding6
  • Bleeding between menstrual periods6
  • Heavy menstrual periods6
  • Vaginal bleeding after menopause6
