How is the surgery performed?

The neurostimulator (which produces the electrical impulses for stimulation) will be placed beneath the surface of the skin, in the upper buttocks, and connected to the lead.

Sacral neuromodulation involves a surgical procedure to implant a medical device into your body. This is a treatment that carries risk and is not used as a first-line treatment for incontinence.

What happens after the operation?

Many people don't feel the stimulation on a daily basis; if the therapy is working, this is perfectly normal. The goal is to achieve the most effective reduction of symptoms possible, without adverse effects, at minimal stimulation levels. An annual follow-up is recommended.

How long does the InterStim X™ battery last?

Sacral neuromodulation systems are designed to last several years before needing to be replaced. The battery lifespan depends on the program settings chosen. The neurostimulator may need to be replaced if the battery depletes or the device malfunctions. This will require additional surgery. The InterStim X™ is a recharge-free system that delivers at least 10 years of battery life* and up to 15 years under low energy settings*. Please note this may differ depending on therapy settings.

My Therapy App

This app enables you to manage your therapy, including:

  • Adjust your stimulation
  • Turn stimulation on or off
  • Change programs at your physician’s recommendations
  • Activate MRI mode and MRI eligibility

The physical buttons on the Smart Programmer itself will not change your stimulation. This can only be done through the My Therapy App.

Notifications

You may receive pop-up notifications on the Smart Programmer while using the My Therapy App. If you have questions about a notification not listed here, refer to the InterStim XTM Therapy Guide. If you still have questions, contact your physician.

TIP: If a notification disappears before you have time to read it, that means the error fixed itself. If any of these issues continue, contact your physician.
