DIAGNOSTIC OPTIONS

Artificial Intelligence Colonoscopy

The future of preventative colorectal health is colonoscopy, incorporating Artificial Intelligence (AI). This additional tool to a standard colonoscopy, aids doctors by increasing the number of automatically detected polyps, which can be precancerous growths and may otherwise be missed during a colonoscopy.*

Why AI?

With the addition of AI, doctors may detect polyps or growths of various sizes, shapes, and morphologies. This helps doctors to prevent colorectal cancer in their patients by detecting polyps which might otherwise be overlooked.1

Step-by-step procedure

Always follow the instructions specified by your physician or the nursing staff. Always follow the discharge instructions provided by your physician after your procedure.

STEP 01

Before procedure

The use of artificial intelligence during your colonoscopy will not affect the preparation of your procedure. Follow your doctor’s exact instructions on how to prepare your bowel for colonoscopy. This usually involves keeping hydrated and consuming only clear liquids, such as broth or black tea/coffee, for at least one whole day before your procedure.

STEP 02

During procedure

A colonoscopy procedure usually lasts around 30 minutes and is typically performed under anaesthetic combined with pain medication. You'll begin the exam lying on your side on the exam table with your knees drawn toward your chest. A flexible tube with a camera at the end is inserted into the rectum for the doctor and AI system to view the inside of the colon in real time. If necessary, polyps can be removed and biopsies can be collected through the scope during a colonoscopy.

STEP 03

After procedure

It takes about an hour to begin to recover from the sedative so you should arrange for someone to take you home following the procedure. Your doctor will review the results of the colonoscopy and then share the results with you. A colonoscopy result  is considered negative if the doctor doesn't find any abnormalities in the colon. There are a number of reasons why your doctor may suggest a repeat examination straight away or in the future, including a positive result or being of average risk age.3

The procedure

While your doctor is looking at the inside of your bowel with a colonoscope (a flexible tube with a light and camera on the end), the AI system scans the colonoscopy video and draws small  boxes around polyps that might otherwise get overlooked.
