Wireless pH Capsule reflux testing:

Step-by-step procedure

Always follow the instructions specified by your physician or the nursing staff. Always follow the discharge instructions provided by your physician after your procedure.

STEP 01

Before therapy

Your physician will provide you with details of instructions to prepare for your test, beginning 7 days before the procedure. No eating or drinking 6 hours before your procedure.

Always follow the instructions specified by your physician or the nursing staff. Always follow the discharge instructions provided by your physician after your procedure.

STEP 02

During therapy

Follow your usual daily routine. Don’t reduce or change your activities during the monitoring period. If you change things, the monitoring results aren’t as useful. Note: Don’t get the receiver wet because it’s not waterproof.

STEP 03

After the procedure

After the study has completed, you can resume your normal activities, diet and medications. The disposable pH capsule will detach and pass through the digestive tract in 7 to 10 days on average. Your physician will discuss the results of the monitoring test with you and develop a plan to manage your symptoms.

Treatment options

The procedure

 

A small capsule, about the size of a gel cap, is temporarily attached to the wall of the oesophagus during an upper endoscopy. The capsule measures pH levels in the oesophagus and transmits readings to a receiver (about the size of a pager) worn on your belt or waistband.
