Thyroidectomy involves the whole or partial removal of the thyroid gland. Partial removal can include entire lobes of the gland (lobectomy) or of the isthmus joining the lobes, depending on the indication for surgery. The decision between total or partial thyroidectomy will depend on the disease indication.
