Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) and Ecommerce

EDI and Ecommerce at Medtronic

Medtronic offers EDI as a way to streamline the order-to-cash business processes. Medtronic offers product catalog scrubbing to improve ordering accuracy. If used in conjunction with the EDI ordering, order confirmation, invoicing, and payment processes, great benefits and efficiencies can be achieved throughout the supply chain.

EDI

Electronic data interchange (EDI) is the exchange of electronic business documents in a rigorously structured format from one computer system to another with the intent to transact business in an automated fashion, with little or no human intervention.

Ecommerce

Electronic commerce, also known as Ecommerce, EC, e-commerce, eCommerce or e-comm, refers to the greater discipline of electronic systems providing services such as the buying and selling of products over the Internet or computer networks. It includes the entire process of developing, marketing, selling, delivering, and paying for products and services. Today, most Ecommerce is transacted over the Internet, although it also encompasses other technologies including but not limited to e-mail, mobile devices, EDI, electronic fax solutions, and smart shelf systems as well.
