Endobronchial tubes

Shiley™ endobronchial tubes enable selective lung ventilation for thoracic surgery and intensive care applications.15 They may also be used in blunt chest trauma cases with prolonged dyspnea following chest tube insertion or persistent air leak suggesting bronchial injury or rupture.16 Specifically designed for each lung, Shiley™ endobronchial tubes are available in three configurations: standard left, standard right, and left with carinal hook.

Each tube features separate bronchial and tracheal lumens with two corresponding cuffs, each equipped with a self-sealing valve and pilot balloon. The polyurethane tracheal cuff provides greater puncture resistance compared with conventional PVC materials. At a 90º angle, both the tracheal and bronchial cuffs can be fully inflated and fully deflated.

Shiley™ endobronchial tubes are designed to resist kinking and collapse and are MRI conditional.

For left side single-lung ventilation

Shiley™ endobronchial tube, left

  • The carinal hook is made from radiopaque material that supports verifying placement within the carina
  • The slightly curved bronchial tube tip is designed to aid in placement in the left main bronchus17
  • Left version without carinal hook has a distal tip marker, a radiopaque line encircling the tube above the cuff and a marker at the opening of the tracheal lumen
  • Left version with carinal hook has a distal tip marker and a marker at the opening of the tracheal lumen

For right side single-lung ventilation

  • Right endobronchial tubes have an S-shaped bronchial cuff designed to facilitate positioning of the right upper lobe18
  • Right version has a radiopaque marker around the eye opening for the right upper lobe

The Shiley™ CPAP system

Designed to deliver continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) to the non-dependent lung during one-lung ventilation, when used with the Shiley™ endobronchial tubes. The CPAP valve allows for exact adjustment of pressure levels from 1 cm to 10 cm H20.
